What is LENA at Arts in Play?

What is LENA Start at Arts in Play?

A FREE 10-week* playgroup that incorporates the Arts in Play GrowBabyGrow curriculum alongside the LENA talk pedometer program that strengthens the adult/child dyad through interactive talking.

*Plus an orientation session to practice!

Why is "Interactive Talk" important?

Simple back and forth conversations between you and your little one nurtures your growing relationships and are a strong influencer for building early language, improving your baby's early literacy and school readiness.

Who can participate?

Our LENA Arts in Play family playgroups are FREE and open to families* with children between 2-32** months of age.

**Toddlers are eligible to participate as long as they are no older than 32 months on the first day of the session.

*Self-reported eligibility requirements are listed below

Families living or working in one of the priority zip codes listed below and have a combined family income of less than $45,000.00

Each in-person session throughout the 10 weeks will include stories, songs, and activities that enhance relationships and language skills.

Between weekly groups, families will use the LENA System, a "talk pedometer", that tracks syllables during the back and forth conversations between you and your little one and helps you set goals and track language progress.

LENA (Language ENvironment Analysis) is a national nonprofit on a mission to transform children's futures through early talk technology and data-driven programs.

LENA Start is a program for parents of children ages 0-3 that uses regular feedback from LENA technology to help increase interactive talk in order to close the early-talk gap, support kindergarten readiness, and build stronger families.
