What is LENA at Arts in Play?
A 10-week* virtual parent group that strengthens adult/child communication through interactive talk utilizing the LENA talk pedometer program. GrowBabyGrow activities are sprinkled throughout for a playful and fun learning experience!
*Plus an orientation session to practice
Why is "Interactive Talk" important?
Simple back and forth conversations between you and your little one are a strong influencer for building early language, improving your baby's school readiness, and nurturing positive relationships with you, their first, favorite, and BEST teacher!
How does it work?
Each virtual session throughout the 10 weeks focuses on using the 14 Talking Tips for increasing early talk and will include stories, nursery rhymes, songs, and activities that enhance relationships and language skills.
Between weekly playgroups, families will use the LENA System, a "talk pedometer", that tracks syllables during the back and forth conversations between you and your little one and helps you set goals and track language progress.
Who can participate?
LENA Start at Arts in Play is a FREE parent group open to families* with children between 2-32** months of age.
*Living or working within one of the zip codes listed below and having a combined family income of less than $45,000.00.

Babies and toddlers with special developmental needs are eligible and encouraged to enroll.
**Toddlers are eligible to participate as long as they are no older than 32 months on the first day of the session.

Weekly playgroups are joyfully and compassionately facilitated by Elena Diehl and Shawna Robinson and are a partnership between GrowBabyGrow, Mama to Mama, National Centers For Families Learning, and Family Health Centers.
